The architect of St.Basil was
Potsnik Yakovlev.
He was hired by Russian Tsar
Ivan IV to make something in honor of the military conquests of the Russian
capture of Kazan.
St.basils first name was the Cathedral of Intercession on the Virgin of the
Moat. Its name was changed because the cathedral was built on top of St.Basil’s
(the saint) grave. St.Basil was a very important Russian Orthodox (religion of Russia) saint.
Saint Basil was born to a poor family and any money he got he gave away to
people who had even less money than he did.
St.Basil’s cathedral was built in a
Russian Byzantine style because
Ivan IV wanted a western
European style.
