Edirne

Medical Museum

We really enjoyed this - our first mosque in Turkey.  It was built in the 16th century and served as a medical school and hospital as much as a mosque.  The doctors here recognized the benefits of music and aromatherpay and wrote many volumns on mental health, the art of 'being busy', homeopathy, herbs and whole body/mind wellness.
It was very interesting to read about these practices in medicine hundred of years before they were recognized as valuable in the west.  Dave and Susan especially enjoyed the drawings in the medical museum of different surgeries - a rare example in Islam - as the faith does not usually allow the representation of the human form.
