Amed - Christmas

It was the Christmas season, so of course we had a whole mess of holiday celebrating to do!

And while we didn't know it at the time, this was a fabulous warmup for the performances we would later see in Ubud!
One of the special treats in store for us was a performance of traditional Balinese dances by teens from the local villages. Although it was pretty incongruous to have a Hindu dance taking place in front of the Christmas tree, we figured it was all in the spirit of the season.

The hand and eye movements were so striking, and so similar to the Indian dances we've seen. It was a very small setting - the restuarant in the hotel with maybe 15 people watching- and we had an excellent opportunity to watch the dancers in action.

And of course, Santa tracked us down in Bali. We found out later that he had made an initial stop off in Mumbai, but he did follow us around the world with some "travel friendly" gifts. Breck scored a couple of Lego sets, including a WWII airplane, as well as some action heroes figures.

Alea hit the motherlode with a Twilight T-shirt (yes, we have all read all the books, seen the movies, and read the Midnight Sun draft. And you know what - I'm not ashamed at all at admitting those facts) and a new mp3 player. We figure that after a year of having to borrow mom's, we'll try not to lose this one (like we did last Christmas in Thailand).

Susan and Dave just basked in each other's love and were happy to have the chance to go to Bali!

A wonderful stop for the entire family!
