Amed - Local life

We ran into this woodcarver working on little models of the boats that we saw everywhere, making them right outside our hotel. So now the kids each have an Amed boat at home - very cute!

Right outside our hotel, boats would pull in every evening, and the entire family would get into the action, pulling all the mackerel out from the nets. This kid was pretty proud of his fish!

I'm not sure what kind of fish these are, but they sure look like they're good eating!

And of course those fishermen do a booming business. We ran into them all over, including this dad cleaning out fish with his sons.

One afternoon, as we were rehydrating (on a different beach), the fishing boats came rolling in, so Alea and Breck hustled off to capture pictures of the load being delivered.
Baskets + fish = baskets of fish for sale everywhere!
And we did run into these fish all over the island - baskets by the side of the road, waiting for who knows what to happen next. I'm sure they hadn't counted on Susan picking one up (and putting it in her shirt!)

But after the boats come in for the evening, then the fun begins. As we strolled along 'our' beach, we noticed these boats tied up nearby - with a familiar name on the first one!

The local kids would strip down and jump in, splashing and whooping it up. It was great fun to watch, although none of us had any plans to join them in the nude!
